At the center of Maison Yusif is a bold vision and the man who brought it to life—Yusif Meizongo Jr., Ghana’s first artisan perfumer. Born and raised in Newtown, Accra, Yusif’s story is a testament to passion, resilience, and the pursuit of purposeful luxury.

Armed with a first-class honors degree in Public Relations from the Islamic University of Ghana, Yusif began his career with aspirations of following a traditional professional path.

When Doors Didn’t Open

Despite his qualifications, countless job applications went unanswered. Rejections became a reality, and the dream of a white-collar career began to fade.

The Entrepreneurial Pivot

Refusing to be defeated, Yusif turned to entrepreneurship—selling clothes, watches, sneakers, and even working as an Uber driver to make ends meet.

But in an unexpected twist, customers weren’t interested in what he sold—they were drawn to what he wore. His personal scent sparked curiosity, admiration, and consistent requests.

That consistent demand planted the seed. Though his journey into perfumery began in 2011, it wasn’t until 2017 that what started as a personal signature scent evolved into a bold new vision: Maison Yusif.

Our Journey Begins

From the trunk of a car to the shelves of discerning customers, Yusif began crafting perfumes by hand—one scent at a time. His hunger to master the craft led him to study perfumery across Côte d’Ivoire, Germany, Dubai, Turkey, France, Nigeria, Egypt, and Ethiopia. The dream was clear: to build Africa’s own luxury fragrance house rooted in excellence.

He became the first African perfumer to launch nine original fragrances in a single day—a bold achievement never before seen in the industry.

This groundbreaking milestone catapulted Maison Yusif onto the international stage, solidifying its status as a symbol of African luxury and innovation.

Our Legacy in the Making

Today, Maison Yusif stands as a symbol of African artistry, purpose, and innovation. In 2023, we became the first Ghanaian fragrance house to win an international fragrance award at the Perfumista Awards. Yusif is also a certified olfaction trainer recognized by the International Perfume Foundation in France, adding global recognition to our local roots.

From Humble Beginnings to a Global Vision

Long before the international awards, press coverage, and spotlight, Maison Yusif started with nothing but raw passion and persistence. In 2011, Yusif Meizongo Jr. began experimenting with fragrance blends in a small room tucked away in Newtown, Accra. By 2017, he officially launched Maison Yusif—selling handcrafted scents from the trunk of his car, often working late into the night to perfect each formula.

These humble beginnings laid the foundation for a brand now celebrated across borders.
